After the holidays I managed to book my computer in with a tech to install Windows 7 64-bit Edition. Then I installed Kasperski Internet Security and IOBit Advanced System Care Free-Edition, Mozilla Firefox and Skype, and went looking for Wurm Online

Instantly hooked on the game, I was more interested in playing despite the problems I was experiencing. As other players were having dc issues I didn't complain. I didn't know the difference between java crashes, client crashes, freezing issues, freeze-reboots and bluescreens though I was getting all of them. I accepted it all because Wurm was great. I lowered all my settings to minimum, ignoring compatibility tab, in the hope it would help. The problem was intermittent, sometimes really bad, sometimes not occuring at all for hours. Eventually I concluded that nothing had changed.


I started talking to the other players about PC issues, but at first the only advice I got was 'overheating'. I tried a heat-monitoring program but I couldn't find any useful data to share. Eventually someone pointed out that my graphics card was not a gaming card, and following the advice to the letter, I bought as good as I could afford - a Radeon VAPOR-X HD7770 GHz Edition 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC-VERSION with proper onboard fans. After a while of play-testing I concluded that it hadn't changed anything. I tried making sure my Java version was correct for 64-bit, but 64-bit Java didn't improve anything noticably.

With overheating in mind I finally got around to getting another fan and got instructed on reapplying CPU compound at a computer shop. I discovered that all the installed fans blew inwards, so I had the case apart and ended up with 3 outward fans (including heatsink fan) and the forward fan inward oriented for through-flow. Didn't help.


Took the computer back up the shop. Drivers were updated and a problem with minimal paging memory were fixed. Didn't help.

Back up the shop again, all the hardware was stress-tested and passed, the techs couldn't replicate the problem. I opted in for a full format of the hard-drive and a reinstall of Windows 7 in case of viruses. Reinstalled all the basic programs, went back on Wurm, still the same issues.


Was instructed to try turning off all my security software, which I did to the best of my ability, to eliminate software conflicts. Didn't help.


I tried IOBit Game Booster 3, which appeared to upset a lot of things (though it coincided with the DDOS attack and I falsely blamed it) so System Restored. I read more forum posts and tried to install manufacturer graphics drivers, which caused a lot new issues including upsetting Kasperski and weird graphics issues - http://forum.wurmonl...strange-effect/ and still didn't improve anything. Tried to fix the issues with Catalyst Control Centre, couldn't, System-Restored.


It's a long saga of issues discovered and fixed but never identifying the true problem. I'm pretty much out of options except for the extreme of finding a computer shop that will let me sit and play Wurm in their back-room all day so I can demonstrate the problem in action. I'm hoping that someone here will have a bright-spark idea that may help

Augustus was educated at Wolverhampton School, which he entered in 1874, but there he failed to show the brilliance which he was to show later in his life. This is not to say that he was a poor pupil, merely a mediocre one, but by his final year at school he was beginning to excel and in 1881 he won a scholarship to study at St John's College Cambridge. Entering St John's College in the following year, his first difficult decision was whether to take a degree in mathematics or in classics. He decided on mathematics and steadily improved his performance until he was elected scholar of the College in 1884 and, in the following year, he was Second Wrangler, meaning that he was ranked second among the First Class students in the Mathematical Tripos. He was elected to a fellowship at St John's College in 1886 and the following year won the first Smith's Prize. These years were highly productive ones during which Love produced outstanding work which led to his election to the Royal Society in 1894.
Love was appointed to the Sedleian chair of natural philosophy at Oxford in 1899. At this time he gave up his fellowship at St John's College but, in 1927 he was elected an honorary fellow at his old College of St John's. n the same year of 1927 he was also elected to a fellowship at Queen's College Oxford.
He worked on the mathematical theory of elasticity, on which he wrote the two volume work A Treatise on the Macthematical Theory of Elasticity (1892-93) described as [3]:-
... a monumental work of the utmost importance.
Milne, writing in the Dictionary of National Biography, is full of praise for this outstanding work:-
This is a fine, scholarly work, written with an historical sense; unhurried in style, massive in lecture, satisfying in fullness. It gives the general theory of stress and strain; of the conditions of equilibrium and stability of elastic plates, shells and solids; of torsion rods and the bending and vibration of beams; and the transmission of force. It remains a permanent monument to the academic aspect of elasticity. The treatment throughout is severely analytical, but it took form too early to incorporate the tensor calculus.

Love also did important work on waves. His work on the structure of the Earth in Some Problems in Geodynamics won for him the Adams Prize at Cambridge in 1911. An expert on spherical harmonics, Love discovered the existence of waves of short wavelength in the Earth's crust. The ideas in this work are still much used in geophysical research and the short wavelength earthquake waves he discovered are called 'Love waves'. Milne writes:-

Love investigated the possibility of the propagation of a purely distortional surface wave, and found that such could exist in a heterogeneous medium. In these waves the disturbance is purely horizontal (traverse to the direction of propagation), and the wave velocity, unlike that of 'Raleigh waves', depends upon wavelength. 'Love waves' have proved of considerable importance in the hands of later investigators, who have been able to infer, from their application to seismograms, indications of the thickness of the upper layer of the earth's crust.

He received many honours, the Royal Society awarded him its Royal Medal in 1909 and its Sylvester Medal in 1937, while the London Mathematical Society awarded him its De Morgan Medal in 1926. He also acted as secretary to the London Mathematical Society for fifteen years between 1895 and 1910, and was elected as president of the Society in 1912-13.

His lectures to his students at Oxford were models of clear thinking and stat Love (1854-1921), African American champion cowboy known as Deadwood Dick, was famous for his great skill as a range rider and cattle-brand reader.
Nat Love was born a slave on a plantation near Nashville, Tenn., in June 1854. He had no formal education but, with help from his father, he learned to read and write. When the slaves were freed following the Civil War, Love worked on the small farm that his father rented from his former owner. After his father's sudden death, he became the sole support of his mother and younger brother and sister. He was able to obtain work on various plantations, where he displayed great skill in breaking horses.
In 1869, at the age of 15, Love was strong and alert and looked older than his years. He left his family in an uncle's charge and, with $50 in his pocket, headed west for Kansas, walking most of the way. When he reached Dodge City (a shipping center for the cattle industry), he got his first job, as a cowboy with the Duval Ranch. In the course of his 3 years with the Duval Ranch, Love became their buyer and chief brand reader. He made many trips into Mexico in this capacity and in the process learned to speak Spanish fluently.
In 1872 Love went to work for the Gallinger Ranch in Arizona, where he remained for many years. He became a master range rider and traveled over all the important western trails between the Gulf of Mexico and Montana. His dangerous work involved him numerous times in gun battles with Native Americans, cattle rustlers, and bandits, and he became an expert marksman. In one encounter with Indians he was wounded but taken captive rather than killed because the Indians were impressed with his bravery. He came to know many of the famous men of the West, including Billy the Kid, Bat Masterson, and Pat Garrett.
Love acquired the name Deadwood Dick as a result of winning a shooting contest in Deadwood, S. Dak., on July 4, 1876. He became a champion rifleman by placing 14 out of 14 shots in the center of a target at 250 yards.

Love married in 1889, and a year later he left the range to work as a Pullman porter on the Denver Rio Grande Railroad. In 1907 he published his autobiography, which contains photographs of him wearing his western gear. He died in Los Angeles in 1921.
